December 13: A Debate on the Healthcare Assessment Ballot Measure Facing Oregon Voters

Event Description

Oregon voters will decide on January 23 whether to overturn $320 million in healthcare assessments intended to balance the state’s Medicaid budget. That vote takes place just two weeks prior to legislators convening in Salem again.

A Yes vote keeps the assessment on hospitals and health insurance in place while a No vote would repeal it. The issue became contentious during the last legislative session, with Republicans gathering enough signatures to place the issue on the ballot.

In preparation for this vote, Oregon Health Forum is bringing together panelists on December 13 to discuss the ramifications of repealing vs. upholding the assessment.

Panelists for Repealing the Assessment:
Rep. Cedric Hayden,
R – Roseburg
Rep. Julie Parrish,
R – Tualatin / West Linn

Panelists for Upholding the Assessment:
Jessica Adamson, Director of Government Relations, Oregon, Providence Health & Services
Felisa Hagins,
Oregon Health Policy Board and SEIU Local 49

Moderator:
John Schrag, Executive Editor, Pamplin Media Group
